8 Animals That Hibernate

The chipmunks sleep deeply during hibernation. In spring and summer, they generally eat nuts, but in late summer, they labor hard to gather and stockpile food for winter.

1 Chipmunks

The majority of bears don't wake up until spring. The pregnant female bears wake up in January or February to give birth.

2 Bears

Hibernating bats are generally in hollow trees, barns, and structures. Not human-shy creatures. They get along with them. In the winter, the attic or basement are dark and quiet, so they live there. 

3 Bats

They fast for weeks before hibernating. Turtles hibernate on clean diets. Since September or October, they're hidden. Three to four months are spent hibernating.

4 Box Turtles

Queen bumblebees slumber in winter and rise up in spring. She consumes enough pollen for hibernation. 

5 Bumble Bees

To prepare for winter hibernation, these snakes create their den in a meadow. Searching for the perfect den can take miles. They like hibernating with more snakes. 

6 Garter Snakes

Winter survival requires enough fat. They must weigh 600 grams for that. Environmental factors also lower body temperature. Their heart slows and they may cease breathing. 

7 Hedge Hog

They cover themselves for hibernation when the frost arrives. For winter warmth, they hide in their shell and seal the opening with slime. Four to six months pass during hibernation.
